Freely Speaking - Devotional by Tara Thompson

Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.

Today’s devotional was written by Tara Thompson and narrated by Sharee Gaiser.

"Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6-7 (KJV)

One of the things I sometimes worry about most is whether I am missing out on God's best for my life. Am I making the right decisions? Am I where God wants me to be? Is there something more I should be doing? Sometimes I get so focused on figuring out God's plan that I worry I am getting it wrong.

I replay decisions in my mind and question opportunities I accepted or missed. What if I take the wrong path? What if I don't recognize the opportunity God puts in front of me? What if I get so busy with everyday responsibilities that I miss what He is trying to show me?

Philippians 4:6–7 reminds me that God never intended for me to discover His will through worry.

He tells me, “Be careful for nothing.” Instead of being consumed by questions I cannot answer, I can bring everything to Him through prayer. I can ask for direction, tell Him about my fears and uncertainties, and thank Him for the ways He has already led me. I can trust Him with what I cannot see yet.

Sometimes we put so much pressure on ourselves to find God's perfect plan that we forget God can lead us. This verse doesn’t promise He will immediately show us the next ten steps. His peace will guard our hearts and minds as we trust Him for the next one.

There may be decisions I don't yet have answers for, and seasons when I question whether I am exactly where I am supposed to be. But I don't have to live afraid that one wrong decision will somehow put me beyond God's ability to direct my life.

My responsibility is to seek Him, pray, obey what He has already shown me, and trust Him with what comes next. Maybe God's best isn't something I have to chase anxiously, but something I experience one faithful step at a time.

Are you spending so much time worrying about missing God's plan for your life that you’re missing the peace He wants to give you right where you are?
