Freely Speaking - Devotional by Liz’a Biswell
Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.
Today’s devotional is written by Liz’a Biswell and narrated by Angela Gray.
“…I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!” (Matthew 7:23b NKJV).
Worry and fear touch every part of life. I’ve felt it in concerns about my children, my marriage, finances, and even the unpredictable Oklahoma weather. But the fear that humbles me most is the thought of hearing Jesus say, “…I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!” (Matthew 7:23b NKJV). That verse shakes my soul to the core and keeps my heart anchored.
The things I call “worries” are actually blessings God has entrusted to me. I don’t always remember to see things through the lens of gratitude. Anxiety has followed me for most of my life, whispering lies and magnifying shadows. I’ve feared things that will never happen and carried burdens God never asked me to carry. For a long time, I labeled it “survival,” but it was really a foothold for the enemy.
In those moments, Romans 8:18 (NKJV) becomes my lifeline: “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” When I keep eternity in view, my perspective shifts. My motivation strengthens. My desire to steward my time, my blessings, and my heart in a way that pleases God becomes clearer. I become determined.
Every earthly fear bows to the fear of being distant from Him. So I choose to set my mind on Jesus — on His Word, His presence, and His calling, rather than the worries of this world. He is the One who steadies every anxious place within me.
