Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.
Today’s devotional is written by Marge Webb, and narrated by Angela Gray.
“Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. Psalm 119:105 (KJV).
It’s always exciting to learn something new in the Bible. As an adult, studying children’s Bible stories in depth has been fun and rewarding.
Most of us know the story of Moses. It has many parts beginning with his mom and sister hiding baby Moses then floating him down the Nile River in a papyrus basket. He is raised in the Pharoh’s palace in Egypt through his youth. One day he kills a man and flees Egypt to Midian. There God appears to him in a burning bush telling him to return to Egypt to free the Hebrews from slavery.
But did you know God planned to kill Moses? We read in Exodus 4:24 (NIV), “while Moses and his family were on their way to Egypt, the Lord met them at an encampment and sought to kill Moses.” The first time I noticed this a few years ago, I thought it strange that God planned to kill Moses during his act of obedience. I think I would have threatened to kill him in Midian when he made so many excuses not to obey God.
When reading verse 25, we discover that with the help of his wife, Zipporah, God spared Moses. God’s intended death sentence was due to Moses’s rebellion to the Abrahamic covenant of circumcision. Zipporah saved the day using a flint stone to circumcise their son and spreading the blood on the feet of Moses. This is also symbolic of Christ shedding His blood for mankind’s redemption.
How is God speaking to you? Does He need a burning bush revelation to make clear what He is speaking? Of course, we now have the Holy Spirit to reveal truth to our hearts. I hope you are listening to what He is saying and letting God’s word be a lamp to your feet and a light to your path.
