Today’s devotional is written and narrated by Angela Gray. 

“Let’s make a small room on the roof and put in it a bed and a table, a chair and a lamp for him. Then he can stay there whenever he comes to us” (2 Kings 4:10 NIV).

I haven’t always been the biggest fan of summer, but the month of August brings one of the sweetest times of the year for me. This is when my family comes to visit.

Trying to fit everyone into our little home is a sweet but chaotic challenge. Extra bedding and air mattresses are brought out of storage, spring cleaning and grocery shopping have been done, and I count down the days until I get to welcome them with a long-awaited hug.

In today’s scripture, we read of a woman who buildt a room onto her home to make a place for Elijah the prophet to rest during his journeys. This decision led to the fulfillment of her heart’s greatest desire. Elijah wanted to bless this woman for her generosity, so he prayed God would bless her with a son.

Her story assures me that when I make room for God, He always shows up. He is waiting for me to invite Him in to spend some time with me, talk with me, even bless me in ways I can’t even imagine.

How many people did the prophet pass by on his journeys? How many missed out on the opportunity to talk to him? How many missed out on untold blessings because they failed to see the need for his presence in their homes?

God is always passing by, ready to talk with you and to bless you with His presence. Make room for Him today.
