Freely Speaking - Devotional by Tara Thompson
Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.
Today’s devotional was written by Tara Thompson and narrated by Sharee Gaiser.
"But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you" (Matthew 6:33 KJV).
The things that demand our attention are rarely the things that deserve our attention.
It seems like the moment I sit down to spend time with my family or open my Bible, another email pops up, another notification comes through, or someone else's emergency suddenly becomes my priority. Before I know it, the day is gone. The people I love most receive what's left of my time, and so does God.
The truth is that we don't usually lose sight of what matters most all at once. It happens little by little as we allow urgent tasks to crowd out eternal priorities. Our schedules become full, but our souls become empty.
Jesus reminds us in Matthew 6:33 that our priority should never be our inbox, our to-do list, or even others' expectations. He calls us to seek His kingdom first. When we intentionally make room for God, we begin to see everything else through the right perspective. Our work still matters, our responsibilities remain, but they no longer control us. Instead, God leads us through them with wisdom, peace, and purpose.
The reality is that we always make time for what we value most. If we want a deeper relationship with God and stronger relationships with those He has entrusted to us, we must choose them before the distractions of the day choose for us.
What does your calendar—and your heart—say is receiving first place in your life? Are you making space for the Lord?
