Freely Speaking - Devotional by Sharee Gaiser
Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.
Today’s devotional was written and narrated by Sharee Gaiser.
"Be still, and know that I am God." (Psalm 46:10, NIV)
I know what it is like to fill every waking minute of the day because I thought I had to. Never one for idleness, I crammed my calendar with activity that left me breathless by evening. As a busy mum of four children and a school principal, I equated busyness with success. For many years, it worked for me—until it didn't.
Eventually, the relentless pace caught up with me. Constant activity left me weary, and beneath the busyness, my soul was longing for peace, quiet, and rest. I began searching for something that would renew me from the inside out. Along the way, God gently showed me that we were never created to run on empty, striving in our own strength or carrying more than He intended. Two simple practices became a source of healing for my hurried and harried soul: silence and solitude.
Silence creates space for us to listen. In a world filled with notifications, conversations, responsibilities, and endless noise, our attention can easily become scattered. Yet when we intentionally pause and quiet ourselves before God, we become more aware of His presence and voice. Prayer is often bringing our requests to Him, but silence reminds us that a relationship with God also involves listening. As Psalm 46:10 encourages, we can "be still" and remember that He is God—sovereign, faithful, and in control.
Solitude creates space for us to be with God. It doesn't require hours away from our responsibilities; it can be found in a quiet walk, a few moments before the household wakes, or time spent reflecting on Scripture. Solitude allows us to step back from the demands of life and recognise where we need God's wisdom, comfort, and guidance. It reminds us that our identity is not found in what we accomplish but in being His beloved children.
Why not make space for God through silence and solitude this week? Even brief moments of stillness can become sacred opportunities to encounter Him, strengthen your relationship with Him, and align your heart with His will.
