Freely Speaking - Devotional by Angela Vandagriff
Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.
Today’s devotional was written by Angela Vandagriff and narrated by Sharee Gaiser.
“And behold, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bent over and could in no way raise herself up. But when Jesus saw her, He called her to Him and said to her, “Woman, you are loosed from your infirmity.” (Luke 13:11-12, NKJV).
Have you ever been so broken that you could not lift yourself up? You are not alone. Honestly, I think we have all been there!
In my struggles, the lies told me I was weak and that God had turned His back on me. I couldn't see that what was attacking me was more than personal weakness—it was a spiritual battle carrying a debilitating weight.
I had spent my whole life fighting an emotional battle I did not comprehend. It felt like being trapped in quicksand—the more I struggled to free myself, the deeper I sank. No amount of effort on my own could lift me up.
In today's scripture, Luke describes this woman as being afflicted by a spirit of infirmity—a condition marked by physical, mental, or spiritual weakness and limitation. For eighteen long years, she lived under the weight of this debilitating affliction. Then Jesus saw her. He did not ignore her pain. He called her, spoke freedom over her life, and loosed her from her infirmity. In a moment, what had bound her for years lost its power at the sound of His voice. Restored, she no longer was bent over by the weight of her infirmity—she was free and able to rise up!
Jesus sees your hidden pain, and He is calling your name now. The same voice that broke eighteen years of bondage for one woman speaks freedom over you today. The things that have kept you bent over, weary, and struggling to rise are not greater than His authority. Don’t envision your future by the symptoms of your infirmity; that is not your destiny.
Hear His call. Rise at His command. Be loosed by His power. And go forward standing tall—free, restored, and praising Him.
