Freely Speaking - Devotional by Tara Thompson

Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.

Today’s devotional was written by Tara Thompson and narrated by Sharee Gaiser.

“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16, KJV).

What if the greatest answer to your prayer isn’t the outcome you wanted but the transformation you needed?

Today’s verse from Hebrews 4:16, doesn’t just invite us to pray—it invites us to come to the throne boldly, with confidence, knowing we are heard.

There was a season in my life when I held tightly to a specific prayer. I believed with everything in me that Jesus would say “yes.” I prayed consistently, confidently, and even boldly because I trusted that Jesus hears and answers. But when the answer came, it wasn’t what I expected. It was a “no.”

At first, that answer felt confusing, discouraging and heartbreaking. As the years passed, I began to see something deeper. Jesus hadn’t ignored me, He had met me. In my prayers, I found peace I didn’t have before, the peace that surpasses all understanding. What I once prayed and hoped for, I started to surrender.

That “no” became a doorway to something greater. It became grace in my time of need. Jesus didn’t give me the outcome I asked for, but He gave me the transformation I didn’t know I needed.

Hebrews 4:16 doesn’t promise that Jesus is going to answer every prayer in the way we want, but it does promise that when we come boldly, He will give us mercy and grace. And sometimes, that grace looks like a changed heart rather than changed circumstances.

When you pray, are you only seeking answers—or are you open to being changed by His presence?
