Freely Speaking - Devotional by Marge Webb

Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.

Today’s devotional is written by Marge Webb, and narrated by Angela Gray.

“But my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19 KJV).

In 1983, we bought a brand-new house. It was not huge, but it had things our first house didn’t have, like central heating, air conditioning, and two bathrooms. If you know about buying a home in the 1980s, you might recall the high interest rates. We bought this house at 14 percent, which was down from a record 18 percent.

A few years later, we applied for a lower interest rate. For some reason, everything went wrong, and our application was not approved in time. I prayed one of those “shake your fist at God” prayers and asked Him why in the world this happened. Did he not want us to be wise with our finances and save money?

Prosperity preachers often misuse the above verse in Philippians. I’ve heard it preached in a way that says God is so rich, he wants us to be rich as well. There is nothing wrong with Christians being wealthy, but that’s not what this verse says. It says God will supply all that we need, not just what we want.

Back to the interest rate story. When I shook my fist at God and was so upset that the paperwork had fallen through, I forgot something. God’s ways are higher than mine, and His thoughts are way above how I rationalize what is happening in my life.

A few months later, interest rates lowered again, and instead of refinancing at 10 ½ percent, we got the loan down to 9 percent. God wasn’t ignoring my prayers. He was telling me to wait because He had a better plan.

What do you desperately require from God today? What do you need from His abundance? He supplies all your needs, but He does so in His time because His ways are better. Trust Him today.
